After 8 months on the waiting list my Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD arrived.

With 230BHP under the bonnet it's twice nearly as powerful as my old Rover 216SLi. 0-60mph arrives in 5.5 seconds and it maxes out 150mph. The 4 wheel drive and rally proven chassis keeps all the storming horses in check. Handling is stunning and it corners like it's on rails.

The Dyno power graph tells the story:

So much torque it could pull a house!

Performance:http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#2.2

Road Test The most surprising thing is that it is very easy to drive. With plenty torque low down in the rev range it pulls like most other 2litre cars at low revs. At 3500rpm the turbo kicks in and all hell breaks loose. Power tails off around 6000rpm, about 500rpm before the redline.

All wheel drive means wheel spin is non-existent. The car will launch from standstill even in the wet with minimum fuss. With AWD the grip is almost limitless and the car will corner at amazing speeds on country roads.

Brakes are 4pot calipers with ABS and haul the car to a stop in no time. With all the cars abilities it easy to forget that the laws of physics do apply...eventually :-)

Modifications After nearly 3 years of owning the car I decided to go for a popular modification. Apparently the standard back box is very restrictive and obstructs air flow. I swapped this for the very popular ScoobySport back box and an ITG Filter.

With the new back box and air filter then engine seems much freer. The car will now pull all the way to the red line. The ScoobySport exhaust accentuates the deep off beat rumble of the boxer engine. According to some rolling road results because the standard back box is so poor adding a performance one can liberate around an extra 20bhp. The car certainly feels more powerful. The CD changer under the passenger seat failed so I ripped it out:

And replaced it with Blaupunkt Hamburg MP57 that had Bluetooth and USB input.

Coming up to 10 years old the drivers side electric window started making some nasty clunking sounds. I took the door trim off and found one of the bolts had come away and two others very loose. Tightening these up and the window is nice and smooth again.
