New Labour New Danger

After years of a Tory government Tony Blair and the New Labour party swept to power in 1997. At the time I was working in London and popped along to Downing Street. There were crowds lining the street cheering Tony as he moved into his new residency.

For a while there was a wave of euphoria in the UK. Cool Britannia ruled. There was a sense of purpose and a mood for change swept the country.

A second term later that vision of new Labour has faded. Tony Blair has emerged as more of a president than a prime minister appointing his friends and cronies to office. All that comes out of No. 10 these days is spin.

Labour have become supremely effective of manipulating the media to their advantage. But people are beginning to realise that there is no substance behind the spin. There is no real content, new ideas or polices. It seems like a new Labour Initiative comes out every week, grabs the headlines and then never to be heard of again.

Whilst Tony Blair assures us all is well the country slips further into decline unchecked.

Violent Street Crime continues to rise while police concentrate on cracking down on the soft target of motorists. Valuable police resources are channeled into criminalising motorists. Fines for car related offenses often attract higher fines than burglary and assault. Forget zero tolerance on motorists, lets have zero tolerance on criminals.

Massive tax increases. Stealth taxes have been applied to a vast range of items including increased NI contributions (tax), spiraling petrol costs, insurance tax, airport tax, stamp duty, abolition of MIRAS, and pensions.

John Prescott urges us to abandon out cars, yet Trains and buses continue to be expensive, over crowded, unreliable and slow. It is quite clear Labour intend to tax us out of our cars with no viable alternative in place. Things have only got worse since Stephen Byers put Railtrack into administration. Millions wasted on going to war on false pretenses.

It's time people woke up and realised Labour have failed to deliver. The only thing Tony Blair has done is deliver jobs to his friends.
