Amsterdam 2008

Next stop on our tour of Europe was Amsterdam. Even with BA Airmiles the flights cost 90 pounds in tax each. We landed at Skipol Airport and took the train to the centre. Holland has had double decker trains for years. British Rail should learn something here.

The hotel, The Golden Tulip was located centrally within walking distance to all the attractions. It was easily the best hotel I have stayed in Amsterdam.

A few minutes walk from the hotel was Dam Square and the neoclassical Royal Palace.

Kimi in front of the National Monument, a white stone pillar erected in 1956 to memorialise the victims of World War II,.

Just off Dam Square was the restaurant where Tony met Maria.

Magna Plaza.

The Diamond Museum.

Lots of small canals dissect the centre of Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam Waag is a remnant of the former city walls in Amsterdam. Constructed in 1488, it was originally one of the city gates, the Sint Anthoniespoort. When the city wall disappeared, the Nieuwmarkt (new market) was created around it Now its a restaurant..

A church on the way to Leidse Plein.

Throughout Amsterdam, especially round the bars there are portable street toilets. Each one can accommodate 4 blokes. Surprisingly difficult to use in the middle of the street even when you are bursting from a couple of pints.

Lots of old narrow buildings. Some with fascias leaning!

The Magic Mushroom Shop on Spuistraat. We bought some Mexican Laughing Mushrooms.

With our Shrooms we headed to Vondel Park

Kimi with the Mexican laughing Shrooms.

Shrooms and hash pipe. No point doing things in halves.

The famous Grasshopper. Actually its a rubbish tourist trap selling poor quality gear. Avoid.

Instead we bought our 1gram of grass at the recommended Dampkring at 29 Handboogstraat.

Everyone one else was smoking roll ups with either tobacco or weird tobacco substitutes. We went straight for the pure pipe.

After trying Magic Mushrooms and Marijuana we went back to our favourite drug - beer.

Our favourite Amsterdam bar. The Night Bar - The Bottle.

No visit to Amsterdam would be complete without a tour of the red light district.

Red Light district hookers. Not at all seedy.

Casa Rosso. One of the many venues offering live sex shows.

Night shot of Amsterdam central station.
